Role Overview

Walton Enterprises is seeking a strategic, innovative, and experienced leader to serve as Manager of Software Engineering. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with proven leadership ability to guide a team of full-stack developers in delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions. This role requires extensive experience in solution design, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration, with a strong focus on consistency, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

About the Position

You will lead a high-performing software engineering team in designing, building, and integrating solutions that achieve business goals and deliver measurable value. Leveraging your deep development experience, you will provide leadership on technical strategy, application architecture, and cloud-based software solutions.

 

What you will do

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with business leaders to design strategies, streamline workflows, and automate processes.
  • Influence executive stakeholders with data-driven insights and clear recommendations.
  • Lead discovery phases, translating business needs into actionable technical designs.
  • Drive modernization initiatives to reduce technical debt and strengthen the technology ecosystem.

Technical Excellence

  • Establish and enforce development standards to ensure secure, resilient, and scalable solutions.
  • Oversee cloud architectures, distributed systems, and software ecosystem integrations.
  • Maintain expertise in security practices, CI/CD, data architectures, and system monitoring.
  • Guide “buy or build” decisions through thorough evaluation.

Who we are looking for

Qualifications required for your success

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 15+ years of experience (or 20+ years equivalent professional experience) in software development with demonstrated leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of engineering principles, design patterns, and industry best practices.
  • Full-stack development expertise with JavaScript, React, Nest.js, Node.js, and HTML/CSS.
  • Strong background in relational and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Postgres, MySQL, BigQuery, MS SQL, Azure DataLake).
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Understanding of real-time stream processing (Pub/Sub, Redis, Cloud Functions).
  • Experience with cloud-native tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Run).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with accounting, tax, multi-entity, and investment systems.
  • Knowledge of BI tools and data visualization platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage PII and consolidate data for reporting.

Benefits Information 

Compensation Range: $166,000 - $208,000

The Information Technology Department provides a suite of services including hardware and software support, custom application development, cybersecurity, networking, and tools for software integration.  These services are provided to Walton Enterprises, the Walton Family Foundation and to Walton Family Entities.
